Step 1: Sorting in the new blue bag
The most important step in recycling your household residual plastics? Correct sorting! And that’s where you can make a difference. All your household residual plastics go into the new blue bag. This helps you save 8 kilograms of residual waste per year.
Step 2: Sorting centres
The new blue bag is collected from your home and transported to one of the five sorting centres in our country. There, it is sorted into 14 different waste streams: PET bottles, aluminium cans, beverage cartons, … and mixed residual plastics. The latter are sent to Ecoo.
Step 3: Shredding and removal of non-plastics
When the mixed residual plastics arrive at Ecoo, they are shredded into small pieces. Using infrared and AI technology, non-plastic and non-recyclable materials are removed. This allows the washing process to start optimally. In a pre-wash drum, remaining non-plastics such as glass, stones and metals are separated. This results in two fractions in the separation tank: a floating fraction (PE, PP) and a sinking fraction (PVC, PET, PS).
Step 4: Washing, drying and further sorting
After non-plastics have been filtered out and the plastics have been shredded into small pieces, they are washed and dried several times. Mechanical drying centrifuges water and paper pulp from the washed plastics. Air separation then divides the floating fraction into a film fraction and a rigid fraction.
Step 5: Melting into raw materials
Finally, the film fractions are compacted in an agglomerator or regranulator into raw plastic pellets. During this process, the density increases tenfold. The recycled raw materials are now ready to be processed into new products.
Step 6: From raw material to product
The recycled raw materials are transformed into products for your garden using various production techniques. During production, the materials are melted and pressed into moulds or processed continuously with water cooling. The finishing department then completes the products, adds colour and assembles them if necessary.
Step 7: From Ecoo to your home
Say goodbye to disposable, hello to something new! Our sustainable products can be found in city squares, museums or in your own garden.
