What do you need?
To install your garden edging, you'll need the following tools:
- Spade – to dig the trench.
- Rubber mallet – to drive the anchor stakes into the ground.
- Drill/driver – to secure your garden edging.
- Saw – to cut the edging to the required length.
Step 1: Dig a trench
Start by digging a trench where you want to install the garden edging. This could be the border between your lawn and flower bed, or between a bark-covered pathway and the grass. The trench does not need to be very deep, but it should provide enough space to position the Ecolat securely.
Step 2: Unroll the Ecolat garden edging
Unroll the Ecolat along the entire length of the trench. Allow it to relax for a few moments so it returns to its natural shape. This makes it easier to install the edging in a straight line or to create smooth curves where required. Before you begin, double-check that you have sufficient length.
Step 3: Cut your garden edging to size
Is the edging too long? Simply cut the Ecolat to the desired length using a saw, just as you would cut timber. Always place the edging on a stable surface before sawing. This ensures both a safer working environment and a clean, straight cut.
Step 4: Position the Ecolat in the trench
Carefully place the Ecolat into the trench. Leave approximately 5 cm (2 inches) above ground level. This keeps the border clearly visible and prevents materials such as bark mulch or gravel from mixing with the lawn. Use a spirit level to check that the edging is perfectly straight, ensuring a neat and professional finish.
Do you use a robotic lawn mower? If so, check its cutting height and make sure it cannot drive over the edging.
Step 5: Secure with Ecopic anchor stakes
Now it's time to secure the edging firmly in place. Position the Ecopic anchor stakes behind the Ecolat, spacing them approximately 50 cm (20 inches) apart. Drive the stakes into the ground with a rubber mallet until they sit around 3 cm below the top edge of the edging. This keeps the stakes hidden while providing maximum stability.
Step 6: Screw the Ecolat into place
Fasten the Ecolat to each Ecopic anchor stake using two screws per stake. This ensures that the edging remains securely in place, even if the ground settles over time or the edging is subjected to pressure.
Step 7: Firmly compact the soil
Once the edging is fully secured, firmly press the soil down on both sides using your feet. This provides additional stability and ensures the soil fits neatly against the edging. Check once more that everything is level and straight, then remove any excess soil. Your garden will instantly look tidier, be easier to maintain and the different garden areas will remain neatly separated.
