World Earth Day as inspiration for real change

#Ecoo

Together towards a sustainable future

Every year on April 22, the world observes Earth Day, a global initiative focused on raising awareness and driving action for our planet. Since its first edition in 1970, Earth Day has become an important moment for governments, businesses, and citizens to reflect on key challenges such as climate change, pollution, and the preservation of natural resources. It is not a one-time call to action, but a lasting reminder that the choices we make today shape the world of tomorrow.

Sustainable production

  1. Energy efficiency: We strive for an energy-efficient production process by investing in heat recovery and renewable energy. In doing so, we reduce our ecological footprint and build a more sustainable production model. In addition, with 2,138 solar panels and a capacity of 875 kVA (1,229 kWp), we generate more than 1.1 million kWh of green energy annually. This allows us to avoid approximately 333 tons of CO₂ emissions per year — comparable to the annual emissions of more than 130 fossil fuel cars or the CO₂ absorption of over 13,000 trees.

  2. Optimized water management: Through our own infiltration and recovery system, we reuse 763,000 liters of rainwater annually. This rainwater is efficiently used in our cleaning and cooling processes during production, as well as in our sanitary facilities. In addition, with solutions such as permeable applications, we focus on infiltration and reducing surface sealing. In this way, we contribute to mitigating both water scarcity and flooding risks.

Products that matter ...

Our core activity is rooted in plastics. By recycling household plastic waste, we give more than 22,000 tons of material annually a second life in durable applications such as street furniture and public space solutions. In this way, we make the transition from waste to raw material both visible and scalable.

  • Natural resources are finite. That is why we consider waste streams as valuable inputs and focus on circular processes that extend material lifecycles and reduce the need for virgin resources.

  • Working together for impact. Sustainability goes beyond technology. It also means taking responsibility as an organization and actively contributing to a broader societal shift towards more conscious production and consumption. Collaboration with companies and design partners is essential in this journey, as co-creation enables solutions that are both innovative and effectively applied in practice.

At Ecoo, we recycle around 22,000 tons of plastic waste from 11 million Belgians into new products every year. In doing so, we not only use existing resources more intelligently, but also help eliminate single-use plastics.
